No theory, no slides about parenting philosophy. We start.
We start the first skill
We take the first rung of the ladder and do it together, live, so you finish the 30 minutes knowing exactly what you are going to say and when.
Everyone hears it from me
Your partner and your kids hear it first-hand, at the same time as you. Nobody has to be the one who read the manual and then explains it to everyone else.
You ask me anything
Including the awkward ones. What if my kid flatly refuses. What if my partner thinks this is silly. What if we tried a chore chart before and it died in a week.
Bring whoever lives in your house
The families who get going with the Ladder are the ones who started on purpose, together, at a set time. The families still meaning to start are waiting for a calmer week. I have been waiting for that week for about eleven years. It is not coming. What is coming is Thursday at 5.
If your kids can sit still for twenty minutes, have them there. Kids treat a plan they heard first-hand very differently from a chart that appeared on the fridge overnight.
